While at the fairgrounds in Crescent City, we took a Jeep ride up the coast of Oregon since we would be heading inland in the RV. There are some differences between California and Oregon that we noticed right away. First of all, gas was 20-30 cents cheaper in Oregon. But we are not allowed to pump our own gas - an attendant has to do it. Also Oregon does not have the 55 MPH limit on vehicles pulling trailers. Anyway, on to the coast. Oregon is renowned for it's spectacular coastline. We got the flavor as we drove up as far as Gold Beach. Here are some pics. This is an 'arch rock' This area did not get much damage from the tsunami, but this old boat was already a goner. There is grass growing on the decks. Here at Gold Beach is where the Rogue River comes to the sea. The Rogue River starts in the Cascade Mountains near Crater Lake. We'll see more of it later, but here is the bridge over it at Gold Beach. Back to Crescent City to retrieve our RV. The drive across the mountains to Grants Pass featured some of the most intense mountain driving we have encountered. The road was good and wide enough, but nothing but curves. Our photos don't capture it. In several places there was netting on the hillsides to hold the rocks. And yes, there is light at the end of the tunnel Here is the map of this day's travel. Tomorrow we venture to Crater Lake. A truly awesome sight. Stay tuned.
